Observation of heteronuclear atomic Efimov resonances.
Building on the recent experimental observation with ultracold atoms, we report the first experimental evidence of Efimov physics in a heteronuclear system. A mixture of ;{41}K and ;{87}Rb atoms was cooled to few hundred nanokelvins and stored in an optical dipole trap. Exploiting a broad interspecies Feshbach resonance, the losses due to three-body collisions were studied as a function of the ...
متن کاملAdiabatic Models of the Efimov Effect
Elementary demonstrations of the 3-body Efimov effect are provided for several models involving a light particle and two heavy ones, and differing by the nature of the 2-body (local or non-local) potentials which bind at zero energy the light particle to each of the heavy ones. The proofs rely on Born-Oppenheimer approximations, which are actually projections of the Hamiltonian into suitable su...
متن کاملGeneralized Efimov Effect in One Dimension.
We study a one-dimensional quantum problem of two particles interacting with a third one via a scale-invariant subcritically attractive inverse square potential, which can be realized, for example, in a mixture of dipoles and charges confined to one dimension. We find that above a critical mass ratio, this version of the Calogero problem exhibits the generalized Efimov effect, the emergence of ...
متن کاملOn the existence of the N-body Efimov effect
In this paper, we study a generalization of the Efimov effect for three-body Schrödinger operators to N -body ones with N ≥ 4. We prove the infiniteness of the discrete spectrum under the conditions that the bottom of the essential spectrum, E0, is only attained by the spectra of a unique three-cluster Subhamiltonian and its three associated two-clusters Subhamiltonians, and that at least two o...
متن کاملCorrelated trapped bosons and the many-body Efimov effect.
We study two-body correlations in systems of identical bosons. We use a Faddeev type of decomposition of the wave function where all pairs of particles are treated equally. At large scattering length appears a series of Efimov-like states, i.e., spatially extended, model-independent many-body bound states inside the trap. They may play a role in the decay of Bose-Einstein condensates.
